Cryopreserving organs
When storing organs outside the body by freezing them, there is the problem that the tissue may be damaged by ice crystal formation. For this reason it has been studied under which conditions glass can solidify without building up too much thermal stress. Using suitable solutions it looks feasible to bring and keep organs in a glass-like state without damaging them.
