Thanks to vaccinations, cases of polio were reduced by some 99 percent, with the illness now mainly occurring only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. More cases are now vaccine-derived than wild cases. A new safer form of the vaccine has now been produced and in first tests looks very promising.
