Lithium from geothermal waste

Lithium is an important part of batteries and a lot of it is needed for many more electric cars and storage facilities for electric energy. Now it has been estimated that from the waste of a geothermal power plant in California some 600,000 tons of lithium could be produced per year. However, no efficient method to extract it has been developed yet.
