Protecting nerves against multiple sclerosis

Most existing medication treating multiple sclerosis is about damping the immune system so that it does not attack nerve cells. A new approach - using the over the counter antihistamine clemastine - is different in that it helps to rebuild a protective insulation, called myelin, around nerve fibres. Experiments with 50 patients showed promise; more research is needed.
