The Montreal biodiversity conference has decided to protect 30 percent of the Earth's land surface (currently 17 percent) and oceans (currently 8 percent) by 2030. Furthermore by 2025, 20 billion dollars per year (30 billion by 2030) will be provided to support low-income countries in their efforts to preserve biodiversity.
