In a new meta study, it has been found that an optimal diet with a substantially higher intake of whole grains, legumes, fish, fruits, vegetables, and a handful of nuts, and a reduction of red and processed meats, sugar-sweetened beverages, and refined grains can lead to a higher life expectancy of 11 or 13 years for 20 year old US American women or men, respectively (still 8 or 9 years for people over 60). Eating legumes, whole grains, and nuts make the largest contribution.
