Note on Neat News

calendar.jpg

Since 1 January 2016 there has been for 8 1/2 years a daily "Neat News" (in total 3104). These were more or less interesting and should not be of a negative type as most news we learn every day. Only a few were really very good news, most showed some modest or limited progress, some were hopefully at least interesting.
I feel that there should be some change and am not yet sure how best to proceed with Neat News, but for a start there will be no more Neat News on Saturdays and Sundays. Some further changes may follow.

How to reduce amount of laundry

washingMachine.jpg

Never before there was so much washing of laundry happening as today with negative impacts on the environment in form of micro-plastics, detergents in the waste water, and energy and water consumption. One reason is that people are worried to be perceived as dirty. For reducing the impact it is important to present alternatives how to replace some washing actions by actions such as airing, brushing off dirt, or removing stains by hand.

Predicting risk of heart failure

heart.jpg

Cardiac arrest may come without warning; for this reason it is important to find a way to predict problems with the heart to take preventive action. Now a new computational method has been developed that needs only the heartbeat intervals (more exactly ultra-short term heart fluctuations) during one minute at rest and during different stages of physical activity. It can significantly better estimate the long-term risk than previous low intervention methods.
