| According to estimates the Sun formed some 4.6 billion years ago and the Earth some 4.54 billion years ago. The Moon is thought to be formed in a collision of a big object with the Earth. Analyzing tiny grains of lunar zircon, scientists estimate now that this collision happened between 4.46 and 4.51 billion years ago, older than other lunar zircon that is 4.35 billion years old. That is, it is now thought that the Moon formed soon after the Sun and the Earth. related: #Moon |
