Scientists have found a possible explanation why drug resistant bacteria do not dominate other bacteria: Their drug resistance comes at a price, for instance, they cannot thrive in an environment of low levels of magnesium. This insight may pave the way for the development of new drugs fighting these bacteria. related: #bacterium #drug_resistance

For the first time the teleportation of a quantum state of light through more than 30 kilometres of an existing fibre optic cable has been achieved. This also shows the possibility of using the same infrastructure for classical and quantum communication, so that no specialized infrastructure for quantum communication is necessary. related: #teleportation

While it can be rightly said that consistency in working out is key to fitness, this should not necessarily mean doing the same workout day-in and day-out, since as is suggested, this could lead to fatigue, a loss in fitness gains, and even a loss of motivation. For this reason it is suggested to incorporate new exercises or adding variety to familiar routines. related: #workout #variety

Unlike other muscles, the heart cannot rest in order to regenerate in case it is injured. This means that normally heart muscle loss cannot be reversed. However, about a quarter of patients with an artificial heart, which takes over part of the heart's work, have shown the regeneration of heart muscle cells. This now leads to some hope that if it is understood why some patients can regenerate these cells a pathway to healing injured hearts can be found. related: #heart #regeneration #muscle

According to estimates the Sun formed some 4.6 billion years ago and the Earth some 4.54 billion years ago. The Moon is thought to be formed in a collision of a big object with the Earth. Analyzing tiny grains of lunar zircon, scientists estimate now that this collision happened between 4.46 and 4.51 billion years ago, older than other lunar zircon that is 4.35 billion years old. That is, it is now thought that the Moon formed soon after the Sun and the Earth. related: #Moon
