In tests babies, who were not yet able to speak, were shown some scenes which were logical and some which were not. For instance, behind a screen certain objects were put and taken away. If the scene was inconsistent with the observation after the screen was taken away (e.g., since there was an object which should not be there), babies looked at the scene much longer than at other scenes.
